Toward Educational Transformation Using “Educational Data and Evidence”
In recent years, advances in ICT and the introduction of the GIGA school initiative have rapidly shifted learning online and digitized the educational environment. Along with this has come the accumulation of a large amount of learning data via digital devices, and effectively analyzing and utilizing this “educational big data” is now considered essential for the future of education.
At EDE, we aim to transform education through evidence-driven practices. To that end, we scientifically analyze educational big data and extract, share, and apply real-world educational evidence to support effective teaching and learning.

Mission
Promotion and practice of evidence-driven educational research to support education and learning through the scientific analysis and visualization of “educational big data” accumulated via digital technology. The goal is to advance education through evidence-based insights.
Message from the Director

Hiroaki Ogata
With the rollout of the GIGA school concept and the shift to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, learning environments centered around individual digital devices have improved significantly. In this new educational environment, there is still little accumulated knowledge, and past experience does not always apply. Therefore, it is essential to utilize the educational data that has been naturally accumulated through the use of digital devices, and to share the evidence gathered from various educational locations across the country.
Under these circumstances, the Evidence-Driven Education and Research Council (EDE) scientifically analyzes educational big data collected through digital learning environments, and provides insights into the learning process using visual data. Its mission is to advance academic research in evidence-driven education. Collecting and analyzing educational data requires the cooperation of schools, boards of education, private companies and universities. EDE acts as a starting point for introducing the LEAF system, including the digital teaching material viewing system BookRoll, to the educational field, and promotes the practical application of educational data and evidence. We look forward to your participation in EDE.
Introduction to the LEAF System(BookRoll and LogPalette)
The LEAF system enables the delivery of personalized instruction and optimized learning environments for each student. At the same time, it supports improved teaching quality and helps reduce the burden on educators.
